Fondation des Pompiers du Québec -

We would like to thank the Fondation des pompiers du Québec pour les grands brűlés, an important partner of ours that has been instrumental in the success of various programs and services offered to our community of major burn victims.

WHY PROTECT NEWLY-HEALED SKIN FROM ULTRAVIOLET RAYS?

Burned skin is more sensitive to ultraviolet rays, particularly during the first year following the burn. Even brief exposure to the sun can cause a sunburn or even phlyctens. It can also result in hyperpigmentation, giving the skin a darker hue in burn zones, grafts and donor sites.

Children's burn camp

This year's edition of the Entraide Grands Brűlés summer camp for youths who have suffered major burns took place at Camp Massawippi. An unforgettable experience for the campers aged from 7 to 17 from all over the province. They experienced a specialized week in equestrian sports. If you are interested in contributing financially to future editions of this camp or if you want to participate, don't hesitate to contact us.

Peer helper training

Each year, Entraide Grands Brűlés recruits burn victims and their loved ones to support those facing this new reality. To participate, we invite you to apply for the training offered in the spring and fall of each year. To learn more, consult the web site or or contact us to learn more.

Patient guide

It has already been two years since Entraide Grands Brűlés began collaborating on the creation of a guide for patients and their loved ones. This guide provides two volumes discussing the various aspects of major burns and the treatments associated with them. On our web site, you can now refer to a preliminary version of the rehabilitation volume by downloading it as a PDF file.

Unfortunately, the volume on acute care is not yet available due to a study being led by Dr. Suzie Bond, psychologist at the Major Burn Victims Unit of the CHUM- l'Hôtel-Dieu. This study seeks to evaluate the impact of three modes of information transmission used when welcoming loved ones to the Centre for Burn Victims of Montreal. It will be prolonged until the end of 2012.

In the meantime, if you would like to obtain more information about the patient guide or comment on the rehabilitation volume, we invite you to contact us at the following address: info@entraidegb.org.
